MAN’S FATAL FALL
EVIDENCE TAKEN AT INQUEST.

CHRISTCHURCH, July 14
iAn unusual sequence of events was .described at the inquest held at Lyt'.tetlton yesterday into the death of James McGlone, a single man, aged 23, an engineers’ messroom steward on s.s. Port 1 Hunter. ' - Police witnesses said that McGlone, who had been drinking was arrested on Tuesday evening for using obscene language. Later, he disappeared from jivatchhouse while the constable in tyharge was attending to the telephone. His body was found next morning in the yards of the gasworks. There was no sign df a struggle. McGlone must have fallen about 40 feet fro-m the road above. There was a partly filled bottle of whisky near •the body. Other witnesses told of a party earliej.- in the evening, at which drink had }|een consumed. , l,Jn accordance with the medical evidence, a verdict was returned that death was caused by injuries'accidentally received through falling over a 'cliff.
