“The Times’ ” Dublin correspondent says: “There will be immense relief in Ireland if Mr De Valera's reply to Mr Thomas the principle of Empire arbitration. Already the cattle trade has been affected, shipments having fallen, and sales languishing. Cattle have fallen by £2 to £3 per head in price in a fortnight.” The correspondent Adds: “There is nothing harsh or vindictive in Biitain’s action, which is the only method of restoring the balance of the budget. The Government cannot tamely submit to taxpayers finding three millions that are due from Irish annuities.
CONSIDERATION IN COMMONS. LONDON, July 4. In the Commons, Mr J. H. Thomas read Mr de Valera’s latest despatch, refusing a Commonwealth tribunal. Mr Thomas added; “Moreover, the rep-y goes beyond the land annuity, and seeks to repudiate, generally, the financjal settlement between the two countries, therefore there is no alternative for us but to proceed with the financial resolution'.”
