IRISH DECISION
ON QUESTION OF ANNUITIES

The “Daily Telegraph’s’’ Dublin correspondent say?:’ The Free State Government has definitely decided to default on the land annuities. Tr.e Free State Executive discussed the'TDi- , tish intention to impose import duties. The correspondent states that the British intention came, as a bombshell* to business men, farmers and cattle* i ! exporters, who fear there may be Bile Dculabls 1 reactions ’ on Irish' trade. I, They fear that even the arrange meat to attend the Ottawa Conference may bo upset, and much good had been anticipated therefrom.
Ti-e Chamber of Commerce requested the Free State delegation to obtain a preference on the British market not less than the preference to be given to any other nation, either by a geifarfil. preference or by a bilateral agreement.

Tho resolution by Mr Thomas moved in the 'Commons provides that, in the event of failure by the Free State to meet the obligations, causing 'loss of revenue to Britain, the Treasury may impose' customs duties on imports, direct and indirect, from 'the Free State,. not exceeding one hundred pp.r cent, of the value of the goods, in addition to any existing duty.
