'« The City Council last night by twelve votes to six, refused an application by the Auckland Provincial Unemployed Association for permission to hold public meetings in the Domain. ELECTORAL IRREGULARITIES. _ COUNTY CLERK CHARGED. CHRISTCHURCH, July 1. William Thomas Lindsay, county clerk of Waipara county, was arrested to-day-, on charges connected with tlje Electoral Act. This is a sequel to a recent Magisterial • inquiry into the election in tAvo ridings in the county, after which the poll was upset, it being sfated by the Magistrate that serious irregularities bad been disclosed. Accused was arrested by Detective Sergeant O’Brien and brought before Justices at Waikari. charged with tbrgery under the Electoral Act, and iemanded to Christchurch on July 8. Bail in self of £250 and a surety of £250 was allowed.
