CANTEEN FUND.' (Per Press Association — Copyright.) WELLINGTON, June 30. A statement prepared by the Canteen and Regimental Trust Board shows the total amount, at present held by the Board, as £197,851. It is expected that the total at January 31 next will be £194,500. , The Board has £198,635 invested, but recent legislation has reduced the income. The Board has paid out in unemployment relief £32,685, and £12.479 for the Trentham Scholarship Fund. THE SOUTHERN MAORI SEAT. TEMUK \ June 28. Mr W. Mihaka, a’ well-known native of the Arowin mm Pa, been approached by a number of ifta'Oris and asked to contest the seat for the Southern Maori electorate rendered, vacant by the death of Mr Tuiti Makitanara. Mr Mihaka has promised to consider the matter and will give his decision as soon as possible. At the time he was approached Mr Mihaka was ’leaving for Levin to attend the funeral of the late member.
