LABOURER FINED jfe. CHRISTCHURCH, June 29. Melville .Percy -Smith ? a labourer, .of 12 .Junction Street, VVoolston, pleaded guilty in the Police Court yesterday to a charge <sf harbouring, oil June 2, Hoiiora' Sims, a person who had e s capi'd from an institution. He was convicted and fined £5 and costs, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment. Sergeant Hyland said that the gb'l Siins was committed to the care of the /(State in February and was an inmate of the Burwood Home. Because of b i' influence there she was removed to Mount Magdala. In company with another girl she left the home and winked the streets for a day. The girl Sims mot the accused and asked him for some food. He obtained work for her in the place where be was boa'ili- g. She told him that she had escaped from the home. Accused did not advise the authorities, but -stated that he would marry the girl if her parents consented. Sinc e then the g'rl hid been committed to a mental hospital as a social degenerate. 'The (Probation Officer stated that the accused was under his supervision and the position was not altogether satisfactory. Accused was allowed fourteen days to pay the fine.
