BIG INCREASE
IN THOSE DEPENDING ON DOLE. (Per. Press Association — Copyright.) AUCKLAND, June 27. Reference to the magnitude of the unemployment p’roblem was made b.v Mr J. G. Coates at a farewell gathering to-day., He said: “There ar© seven-y thousand men dependent on unemployment funds, and, taking their dependants into consideration, the total becomes one of 200,000. “It most be clear that, whatever plan is thought of for ass'sting those ip 'need, the position is hot improving. “Hence,” lie. added, “if -any proposals emerging from the Ottawa Conference would enable the present downhil,! slide to be arrested and encouraee a movement in the other direction, tin? conference would be well worth while.”
