OASES HEARD AT CHRISTCHURCH. (Per Press Association — Copyright.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 25. A pica of guilty was entered bv Joseph Patrick Kelly, a shop assistant, aged twenty, who appeared ihi morning, before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., on a charge of stealing, on June 15!h. an overcoat and a watch, of a tnt.i 1 value of £5, the property of Ha raid Quill. The accused was remanded rill Jure 30th, to enable the Probation Office:' at Greymouth to furnish a report. Chief-Detective Car rob said that tli .* accused came from Greymouth about, three weeks ago without money ar.' went to stay with Mr Quill, who hi.) befriended him. Kelly disappere;! and the articles, went with h'm. When found, he admitted the theft. CASES OF SHOPLIFTING. THREE 'PERSONS BEFORE COURT. CHRISTCHURCH, June 25. Two women and a man appeared in th e Police Court to-day, to answer charges of stealing from two city •shops. They were -Ethel Workman, a domestic, aged forty-two, of Avonhead Road ; Mollie Millar, a domestic, aged twenty-five, of Avondale Road; and Thomas George Flynn, a steward, aged thirty-eight, iof Ulster Place. The accused were jointly charged with stealing, on June 24th ; a woman's jumper, valued at 12s lid, and a hat’ valued at 4s lid, the property, of- M, ■Hollander, Ltd.; and also with stealing ■a woman’s handbag, valued at £2 2s, the property of the Drapery Importing Co. -Ltd. Sub-Inspector Edwards asked for a remand to enable -the police to make further inquiries. The accused were seen to be acting in a suspicious manner in the D.1.C., and when arrested,-/.some of the property alleged to hav e been stolen was found in their possession.
Workman’s house was searched and a considerable' quantity of now stpff was found there. Mr E. D. A youth of fifteen pleidedoguilty in the Children’s Court this moYfiing to stealing two bicycles, one of them belonging to his unde, and also to failing to account for money to an employer.
