j LONDON, June 22. ..'Arthur Edward Robert Gi’lligan, thirty-seven, pleaded guilty at the London sessions to being under the influence of drugs while in charge of a motor-cajr. The prosecutor said that Gilligatifs: chauffeur ■ drove him to the police .station where lie wanted tb'-iriake -af complaint.' The chauffeur left and the police considered that Gilligan was unfit, to drive. Gilligan’s doctor ar-* rived and said that Gilligan was'not drunk, but had taken too much medicine. Sir Henry Curtis Bennett, who defended Gilligan, explained that the medicine contained two drugs and Gilligan drank four doses instead of one. - ‘ , The Magistrate, in fining Gilligan £5 with five guineas costs, said that there were special reasons why his driving license should not be suspended.
Gilligan captained England against Australia, during the 1924-25 tour of Australia. In this tour England won one Test out of five, Australia taking tile remainder. Hillman, whq-was a captain in the Lancashire Fusiliers and served in the Great War from 1914 to 1919, is <a produce broker. He has distinguished himself in cricket, football (two codes), hockey and golf (hop. 9) and at school and university excelled in cricket, footha.il and athletieis. Hie is a brother *of A. H. Gillitrail, who visited New Zealand two seasons ago.
