PERSONNEL OF THE PARTY

■WELLINGTON, June 22,

In connection with the New Zealand Ottawa- delegation it is understood that Mr Coates will be accompanied by either his chief private .secretary, Mr 'N.' E. Hutchings, or his Unemployment Secretary, Dr. R. M. Campbell.

It in also understood that Mr Downie Stewait will take his private secretary, Mr T. R. Aickin, and his personal attendant. Mrs Coates and Mbs Stewart will also accompany the- party. A t s previously announced the . Comptroller of Customs, Dr. G. Craig, and the -Secretary to the Treasury, will go to Ottawa, as expert departmental advisers to the Ministers.

In addition to the nMvi'sers, representing New Zealand industries, who are to accompany the delegation it was further announced to-day, by the Prime Minister, that Mr F. 0. Hamilton, of Nelson will represent the hop and tobacc-o industries, on the delegation,

Other industrial experts are Mr D, Jones (Meat Producers Board), Mr W. Goocif-eillow 1 (Dairy Produce Board and Honey Producers’ Association), Mr H. E, Napier (Fruit Control Board and Fruit -Growers’ Federation), Mr G. W, Reid (Manufacturers Association), and Sir Francis Boys (New Zealand Farmers’ Union).

Affirming the need for reciprocal purchases of Empire Chambers of Commerce, in a pamphlet just issued, mentions incidentally that the policy of some of the Empire countries is to try and promote their secondary industries regardless of economic facte. Their tariffs, -says the manifesto, partially mitigate the preferences given by them, whereas Britain gives the Dominions a free market. The manifesto says that Britain ha-s large trading interests' with other countries, whose only means of payment' for British manufactures is the exporting of their primary products. Care must therefore be taken that this means of payment is not interfered with.

Nevertheless, says the manifesto, Britain will buyvmorefxbKaai she,* dtfe-9 from the Dominions if they will allow her payment to be made in fully manufactured of partially manufactured goods.
