DAIRY CONFERENCE
ASSIGNMENT OF MILK CHEQUES
TARIFF ON BRITISH GOODS

The National Dairy Association Conference continued to-day, when tne discussion proceeded on assignments of milk cheques. No fewer than six remits being connected with this subject. An address w - as given by Mr W. H, Cunningham, solicitor to the Association.
A remit, moved by the New Zealand Co-operative Company, that tlie Conference request the Government to amend the Dairy Industry Act in the direction of empowering dairy companies to reimburse themselves by-re-taining, it necessary, two and a hall per cent from moneys paid out 011 account of such orders, was earned, the proviso being added that tbe Government departments, Herd Testing Federation, and Rural Credits Board be exempt from the provisions o| the remits, v Five other remits on the same subject were withdrawn. Empire preference was the object which revived much prominence. It was decide to urge that a substantial reduction be made in the tariff imposed on all British goods entering the Dominion. A proposal was advanced that taey be admitted entirely free of duty as a friendly gesture, but tlii s was rejected as economically impracticable.
