EXPLOSION LIFTS ROOF

CHRISTCHURCH. June 22

Accompanied by a series of loud explosions a fire did considerable damage to the equipment housed in the electric sub-station at Puriri St., Riccartoii, at nine this morning and provided residents with a. thrilling half hour.

The greatest thrill came when a. detonator blew portion of tile voof iskyu'.'lrds, in ■fragmenjts.

Other explosions followed, but eventually the brigade quelled the outbreak., which is believed to be due to the result of a faulty condenser boating up the transformers, which they burst. The damage amounts to several hundred pounds.
