EX-PROFESSOR’S APPEAL.

WELLINGTON. June 20.
A_ long judgment was delivered by Mr "Justice Ostler to-dav on an appeal b v David James Richards, a .retired university profe-ssor, from the decision of a Wellington Magistrate in regard to separation, guardianship, and maintenance orders in respect to his wife and child.' ThV JhcJge varied the maintenance order and directed, the appellant to pay £6O ill respect to past maintenance .and £5 weekly in respect to the future maintenance of his wife and child. Mr Justice Ostler said that grave injustice.-had been done to the appellant in the publication of evidence and tJre Magistrate’s decision in the Lowei Court proceeding* in such a way. as to create a wrong impression of the details of the case. A consequence was that appellant's character had been unjustly taken away and be bad been rendered more miserable by being forsaken by his friends on account of the falsj ••-charges*' made •• against him. Respondent must take the responsibility for the false, charge having beqn made against the appellant.
