VANCOUVER, June 20

Machine guns threats have prompted the Cook County officials, in Chicago, against Danny McGeoghegan, a wellknown underworld figure. The Assistant .State Attorney, Mr Butler, requested Judge Pry stab-ski to dismiss a charge of robbing the State Bank of sixty thousand dollars, the jury having disagreed during McGeoghegan’s first trial.

Tlie Court asked: “If your reasons are not secret, 1 would like to know them.” Mr Butler replied: “The officials of the bank who identified McGeoghegan in the first trial have aeked me to do so. We have been guarding them in a hotel since April, and their families and the Bank need them.”

Judge Prystalski said: “I don’t believe that the State’s Attorney should stand there and confess that he is not big enough .to keep these men protected. I think that the officials of the hank are big enough to taka eare of themselves.”

Mr Butler replied: “Not whan they are threatened with machine guns I” t Judge Prystalski then signed an order dismissing thevcharge, and flaying that the State could take the responsilrilty. The gangster, grinning widely, then walked from the court room free.
