The New Zealander Brinsden wns extended to beijt I. Harrison at' the eighteenth hole. Both were guilty of appalling putting in the early stages. At the fifth hole Brinsden laid a stymie inches from the hole, but Harrison with a g’eat chip shot w'on the hole. lViiv.den turned one up. Their approximate stroke rounds were:—Brinsden, forty; Harrison,, forty-two. The pair had a splendid struggle over the last nine holes. Brinsden increased his lead to two up at the tenth, and Harr icon, with two birdies, squared the match at the twelfth. Brinsden won the next two and, with two putts for a win at the fifteenth, he should have gone further ahead, but he missed, and a half resulted. Harrison won the sixteenth with a birdie four, but found the New Zealander too steady over the last two holes, which were halved in par, for Brinsden to win one up. The results of the fifth round were: Brinsden beat Harrison, one up. Dobson beat French 7 and 6. Ferrier beat Hattersley 9 and 8. Bettington beat Barriskill Sana 3. The draw for the semi-finals, over 3G holes on Thursday, is as fellows ■ - Brinsden versus Dobson, Bettington versus Ferrier.
