CZAR’S FAMILY
NO SANCTUARY IN BRITAIN
LONDON, June 20
In a hook by Nias Harold Know-ling, daughter of .Sir George Biu-lmimi, former British Ambassador in Russia, just published, it ip stated that tile 'Russian -Royal family could have been saved from mass-acre by the Bolsheviks by being given .sanctuary in England, but that -the British Labour Party objected, and that the,. then Prime Minister, Mr L|ovd George, uphold the objection. .Vlr Lloyd George told the “Evening News” political correspondent that he did no': clearly remember the circumstances Mrs Knowling described, but if the que-Mion of allowin'*' the Czar to tome to Britain arose, lie probably did advise against ii 1., because he. was trying to persuade Kerensky to continue in. the war on behalf of the Aides. The Czar’s arrival in England would have preiudieed the representations to Kerensky. Mrs Knowling’s book declares tli-ul her father was aware of tl’.ie grave danger threatening the Oar and his family, and arranged to get them to Archangel!, and thence to England. The plan had to be abandoned on Mr Llovd George’* representations that the Labour Party would object.to their coming to England.
