Rabbits .are a 'source of continual loss 'to th e landholders in many partn of New Zealand, and though they have to a certain extent been kept in check in some localities, there is ample evidence to prove that unless concerted and persistent efforts are made to check the increase their . consequent spread will have very serious resvViH t-o pa-s----toralis-ts.
Because of this fact, the Unemp’oyment Board arranged .a conference for the purpose of discussing the question.
There was complete agreement as to the need for resolutely tackling the menace, and wad* and means for utilising unemployed labour 111 the task were discussed, It was -suggesmcl that strychnine poisoning wotud he the most effective method of destruction, hut it was finally arranged that the Departments of Agriculture and Lands and Survey should devise a plan of campaign for the eradication of the pest.
