A* GREAT CONTEST
WIN FOR PALMER
(Australian Press Association.)
SYDNEY, June 21. At the Stadium last night Ambrose Palmer, 12 stone, Australian heavy champion, gained L*esh honours in a thrilling contest in which he gained a points decision over a newcomer, Tony Gora 11.10, champion of the Pacific and Hawaiian Islands. Gora is finely built, cool stylist and skilful. He was certainly the toughest, opponent Palmer has met to date. He took considerable punishment on his face, without shotting a trace and on many occasions had Palmer thinking. His left, which uas freely used, opened Palmer’s eyes in the sixth round, whereafter, Pajmer suffered considerable inconvenience. Dora's punches, however, lacked sting and so Palmer went on mixing it each round, providing a stirring rally and using both hands, and adapting his customary elusive tactics and speedy f., 0 l work. Palmer finished as strongly and brilliantly as he started. H was one of the finest contests seen for j a long time. Eight thousand were present.
Palmer will be matched against Stribling. , Dave Singleton, (heavy champion ot "Western Australia) and Pat George (heavy champion of New South "Wales; fought in a ton round draw.
