EX-SOLDIERS’ SONS TO TRAIN
NINETEEN FROM AUCKLAND

AUCKLAND, June 20
Nineteen Auckland boys, dependants of ..soldiers killed during the Great War or disabled by war service, will be permitted to receive training in farming pursuits at Flock House near Palmerston North, in; the result of the decision of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Relief Association to provide the neees.-ary finance.
Mr T. It. Dees, managing trustee of Flock Hou.se, .said there was no better way of assisting the dependants of deceased or disabled soldieis than by enabling them to “get on their feet” ami firmly establish themselves. He i.aigges'ed t’ e Amo! la d Association accent regpomsibiity for nineteen boys, nine from the. city and ten from the provincial centres. The net cu.;t for each boy for eight months of thorough training in all phase.; of farming would lie only £lB, making a total of £.‘142 for the nineteen lads. After completing the course of training the boy.? would he apprenticed to good farmers for three yearn, during which time they would' remain under the control of the TTock House trustees. Cnnson (to ; Mr Lees): “You would not object to the association restricting its assistance to sons of Auckland .voldiers who were either killed or disabled?” Air Lee: “Not at all.” On the motion of Sir Alfred Bankart. it was uiianimoi nly decided to accept for the current year the responsibility for nineteen boys, being dependants of old id's either killed in acton, or disabled by war service, on condition that the liability of the asr.ociaticn was limited to £lB fo reach boy for eight months’ training. , The hoys who are to receive training are to be selected by the Claims Board, of the Association to provide subject to individual necessities and requirements, a reasonable amont of outfit costing not more than £lO a boy.
