PAYMENTS TO BRITAIN. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) DUBLIN, Juno 16. The Dail Eireann has read the second time the Finance Bill by 68 votes to 58. Mr Suan McEntee, the Minister of Finance, said that extra taxation would be avoided if the Dail Eireann ufutted tugothel’ to isecul'e tW remission of payments from the I rec State to Britain, by the withholding of £1,100,000 in i'ospwt of IrJ«h cwstabulary pensions, and £600,000 in repeet of local loans, in addition to thre6 millions in connection with land annuities.
. The Minister added that he believed that the Free State would secure these remission if the Opposition would back the Government up.
Political circles believe that President De Valera’s note to Mr Thomas was despatched to-night detailing the Free State reasons for withholding the land annuities.
