CRICKET

BRITISH TEST TRIAL. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, June 12. Teams for the Test trial match at Manchester on June 18 are:— Nortli: —Wyatt (captain), Sutcliffe, Leyland, Larwood, Voce, Keeton, Duckworth, Paynter, Sibblee, T. B. Mitchell, J. E. Timms. 7 • South:—Jardine (captain), Duleepginbji, Allen, Peebles, Allom, F. R. Brown, Woolley, Hammond, Ames, O’Connor, T. Cook. Iddon is the 12th. man for both sides. Ctiapman’s omission is the most surprising feature of the trial teams, which the “Telegraph” attributes to the selectors’ desire to give Jardine a chance at proving bis mettle. The .selectors know all there is to be known about Chapman. The “News-Chronicle” says: Everybody will miss Chapman name. The selectors’ task must be rather diffi-cult-and delicate, but some selectors seem to go out of their way to lqok for trouble. The “Times” cricketing editor says: Notable omissions are Chapman, Robins and Tate. Keeton and Paynter thoroughly deserve their places. Woolley’s (selection is interesting. Apparently Jardine will bo England’s captain, O’Connor heads th© batting averages with 674 runs, average 67/40, followed- by Sutcliffe, Tyldesley, Shepherd, Ames, Keeton, Hobbs, Paynter, Hammond, Jardine, and Woolley. Larwood heads the bowling with 24 wickets, average 7/79, followed bv Durston, Staples, Voce, Kennedy, Bailey, Sibbles, Freeman, Tate., and Verity.

TOURING TEAMS. LONDON, June 12. South Americans, first innings, 6 for 75 versus Leicester. India, first, 8 for 305 (Navie 64, Nayudu 125) versus Lancashire. 1
