UPSETTING OF HARMONY. OYER PROHIBITION QUESTION. (United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph. —Copyright.! CHICAGO, June 13. A swiftly rising whirlpool of Republican dissension over prohibition, engulfed the chosen representatives’ party to-day, on the eve of their national convention to-morrow. They were ready to re-nomina-te Mr Hoover, and sentiment was turning definitely to the vice-president, Mr Curtis, for a running mate and -all lesser disputes of the platform. The procedure seemed headed for a harmonious decision, but no one any longer expected harmony on proliToition. The prediction of a plank, acceptable to all of the United States-, had gone up in this smoke of a most furious platform battle that any republican conventin has seen since the League of Nations dispute in 1920. Haggard, and plainly discouraged after many hours’ conference, the high commanders of the party continuedtheir efforts, to reach a compromise while the indignant “dry” and insistent “wets” hammered at the doors.
