A HUGE INCREASE
IN SAVINGS IN BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 11. A remarkable increase .in the amount of savings of all kinds by small investors was revealed at the National Savings Assembly at Blackpool. General iSosley, Chairman of the National Savings Committee, stated that in 1911, the total of small savings amounted to 492 millions, or £l2 per head of the population. In 1916, when the National ■Savings Movement first came into being with the formation of the National War Savings Committee, the total of small savings had increased to 687 millions, an average of £l6 per head. In the five years from 1916 to 1921, the figures doubled, reaching 1418 millions or £33 per head of the population. By the end of the 1931 period, the total ,of small savings had risen to the amazing figure of 2244 millions, or £SO per head.
