STATUE OF EROS
VETERAN SCULPTOR KNIGHT HO. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Jun e 9. The King knighted Mr Alfred Gilbert, the 78-year-oild isculptor and designer of the famous Eros statue, at Buckingham Palace, to-day. Only lnsrt week 'Si)' Alfred Gilbert accepted an invitation to rejoin tilie Roya) Academy from which h e resigned 23 years ago, as tlie result of a controversy over the statue. He lived in Belgium for 17 years, and returned to London at the invitation of the King to complete a memorial to the Duke of Clarence at Windsor Castle. He then began work on the Queen Alexandra memorial, which was unveiled by the King' at Marlborough House yesterday.
