EXCEPTION TAKEN
TO SUPERIXTENDENT’S HE PORT. CONCERNING RECENT DISORDERS. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 10. Strong exception to certain statements attributed to the Superintendent of Police. D. J. Cummings, concerning the part played by the police during the recent tramway strike, was expressed at .a meeting of the North Canterbury Labour representation coinniittoo. It" wn> considered that the superintendent's remarks were calculated to destroy coitHdouce in the poi'h"’ as ,to t|ieir .impartiality in industrial disputes. A letter of protest has been eont to the 'Minister of Justice (the Hon. J. G. C«bbe). It is alleged that, when farewell"! at Napier, Superintendent Gumming* said, inter alia, “People from all sections of the community, numbering 1.500, come, forward To assist the police, and it was that which, to a very cmisnl-r----able extent:, broke the back ol tin' strike.
