(By Telegraph— Per Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, June 7

The Director of Meteorological Services, Dr. E. lvidson, in his notes on the weather for May says the month was for the Dominion as a whole dry and cool. The fiitist few clujs, how ever, were mild, and since most dis,;ts had experienced good rains there was a fair growth of grans, Lie effects of the cold spells oh the middle .and latter end of the month, which were severe lor the time ol the jc.u,: were therefore mitigated. Reports indicate that in niont localities feed relatively ‘was plentiful for the time of the year and that ..slock were in good condition. The only parts from which the \v«£e adve’rse;' reports were the central .portion 'of ..the North Island and parts .of Canterbury, where supplies of feed were somewhat .scarce. The rainfall over much of the greater part of the country was 25 per cent, or more below the average, except m tlie western portions of the South Island. Temperatures everywhere were below normal, though the departures were not large. It was probable that the low temperatures* were due to the presence in the atmosphere of volcanicash transported from Chilean volcanoe 5 which erupted on April 10th. Brilliant sunsets were reported from all parts of the Dominion. In the South Island frosts were numerous from the I.oth onward, many lof them being severe. The hardest ot- ! eurred on the 25th, and on this ocoaI sion practically the whole of: the oo.unI trv suffered .
