In the open golf championship, first round, Sarazen with 70 leads. Mae-Donald-Smith, Davies, O. Whitcomhe 75, W. Hartley, Padgliam, Bradbeer 76, Hodson, Mcßuvie, Mitchell. Dobson 77, Dallemagne 78, Miyamoto 79, Twine, ’Duncan 80, Michael, Scott 81, De, Forest 82. Rex Hartley was scratched. Sarazen was supjrb, -j_.;,<wept|ng a definite impression amt playing well enough to win, as he had not the slightest luck. Moreover, on four occasions his putts lipped the hole. MaoDonald-Smith was very convincing. Armour, defending his title, felt his responsiblity ancl his score was hardly good enough. Cotton who was not well, covered lapses hv good putting at which most of the British were disappointingly poor.
