CHRISTCHURCH, June 1
Stating that there were glaring irregularities in tlie conduct ol the lecent elections for the W-aikari and Hunihui Ridings in the Waipara •County elections, due to the negligence and laxity of the Returning Officer • (W. T. Lindsay), tihe Magistrate (Mr H: P. Lawry) to-day declared the election!' null and void, after conducting an inquiry at the Courthouse at Amberley.
The inquiry was instituted by a petition lodged by two candidates, who wdtre declared unsuccessful on the final count. After evidence had been .called by the petitioners to-day. the Magistrate adjourned the hearing until he had supervised a recount and scrutiny of the votes. When the Court resinned he delivered his judgment. Oorts of £29 2s were allowed against the Returning Officer.
