A -State luncheon in honour of tQe visit of the Japanese naval vessels, wa§. ‘held at Parliament House to-ih.y. The Prime'Minister, Rt. Hon. ,G. ,vV. Forbea, presided, and the. giioiiik of A honour were Vice-Admiral N. Iniamura, Captain S. Ivasuya, Captain S. Okada, Captain 11. Asakuma, Commander S. Miwa, Lieut.-Commander K. Hamanaka, ai,id -Surgeon-Captain K. Fukada. 'Others present were: Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Hon. E. A. Ransom, Hon. Dowr.ie Stewart, Hon. R. Masters, Hon. Sir j •C. Statham. I
In proposing the toast of “Our Guest-,’' Mr Forbes mentioned that Admiral Iniamura had been in th e vanguard with the British Fleet at the Battle of Jutland. He said that the only hope for the. world was co-opera-tion between the nations of the world. Ihe need for that wag more pressing now than ever before. There was aiso a need for friendship between peoples with a view to .a united effort in dealing with economic and other problems. ■New Zealand were delighted to meet j ths Jnpane'vo visitors in order .. .further J to cement the friendship between the ! two nations, The people of New Zea-1 land had a very warm spot in their! ’hearts for the people of Japan. ; Responding, Admiral Iniamura said I that .it -wa.s his sincere wish that the j visit of the, squadron would be produc- j tive of many friendship-' and good | understandings, and would contribute j in no small measure to the' fulfi'ment | of the destiny of two great- nations of the Pacific.
