OPERATING FROM TO-MORROW,

LETTERS id FIRST OtiNCE,

The postage rates and chargee that will become operative from June 1 in Accordance with the reductions' announced recently by the Government now appear on a leaflet issued by the P. and T. Department. The rates, one of the most important on whichi is that of Id for the first ounce on. letters, are as follows, the present charges on the principal items being given in parentheses:—

LETTERS AND LETTER-CARDS.

Inland Id (2d) for first ounce or fraction thereof and Id (Id) for each .additional ounce. Bjritiish Empire ITS.A. and certain other countries, Id (2d) for first ounce and Id for each additional ounce,; late, fee, Id (2d) each article. All other places, 2,J-d first ounce and ljd each additional ounce. POSTCARDS. Inland—Single, £d (Id); reply, Id (2d). All other places: Single, Id; reply, 2d. Late fee, Id. NEWSPAPERS. Inland—Each copy not exceeding 3oz, >-d; exceeding 3ojs, Id each IGoz (Id each 8oz). OTHER, ITEMS.

Registration—For any place, 3d. Registered magazines—lnland, each copy Id for each Boz. Parcels—lnland (with exceptions): Not exceeding lib, 6d; each additional lb up to 101 b, 2d; each additional lb up to 141 b, Id. Exceptions: Parcels (except those containing fishing rods, golf-clubs and parcels not exceeding lift in thickness) exceeding 4ft length and girth combined, but not exceeding 111 b. ill weight, 2s Id; parcels of fish-ing-rods and golf clubs not exceeding 4ft 6in in length, not exceeding 3lb, 2s; each additional pound un to 111 b, 3d.

Packets (comprising commercial papers, hooks and printed papers, pattern and sample packets and unregistered magazines)—lnland: Jd for each 2oz up to 21b, and 2d for each additional pound or fraction thereof up to olb. All other placets—Commercial papers: 2ld for first lOoz or fraction thereof. Books and printed papers: id for each 2oz or fraction thereof. Pattern and sample packets: Not exceeding 4oz, Id; each additional 2oz or fraction thereof, M.

(“Householder” circulars—luland: Id for each 2oz (ijd for each 2oz when 2.')0,f10Q or more posted within twelve months). Insurance— Inland and overseas no alteration. Hamper fee—An additional foe of Is or Is fid. a coord ini' to size, is charged on parcels sent bv “Fragile” post-. Limits of weight and size: Maximum weight, 14.1 b; maximum dimensions, Gft length and girth combined.
