GROCER ATTACKED

ASSAILANT ESCAPES

PALMERSTON NORTH, May 29. Cuts' on the head and arm were received by Mr William White when he wa,s attacked at his store last night by an unknown assailant, who made liis escape. It is stated by Mr White, who owns a store almost opposite the entrance to the Palmerston North Hospital in Ruahine Street, that the assailant entered the store about 10 p.m. and intimated that he wished to pay an account. Mr White turned his back and received a blow on the Back of tlie head. He apparently then fell in a dazed condition against a shop fitting, hut recovered sufficiently to avoid a further attack by warding off a blow with his arm. Mr White’s assailant then made his escape, but before doing so it i-s alleged that he threw a hammer at Mr White. The injured man was attended to at the hospital, but it is learned that his injuries are not serious.
