MANY CITIZENS PAYING OUT
OBLIGATIONS ON MOTORISTS
The average man is spending a large part of his time filling up forms. It is not a pastime he enjoys, lor the means that more of his earnings have to fie paid out in levies and taxes; hut it' has to lie done nevertheless, and as to-day is May 31, and June 1 is ominously near, it is a case of “doing it now*:,’ are especially busy. The ti’rfii for renewing licenses and registrations is drawing to a close, and the Pofet Office and City Council officials are having a busy time. . Returns for income tax have to be in by the end of the pionth, and there were still several persons doing complicated cuius to-day. Incomes are not what they were, but the Government lias entered into the spirit of the thing, and so adjusted matters that almost every wage-earner lias tlie privilege of joining in the mathematical exercises and making liis contribution for the country’s good. The emergency unemployment tax on income other than salary or wages was due on May 1, and unless the declarations (UBoo) are filed by June 1. there will he an additional 10 per cent, imposed as penalty. The radio licenses were due on April 1, and most were renewed by that date, hut the officials estimate that there are still a number .still to be renewed. and people are still coining in occasionally to do so.
