SERIOUS FIRES

FINE 1 HOME DESTROYED,

AUCKLAND, May 31

A residential landmark at Kohinarama, tile home of Ernest Davis, was destroyed by fire early this morning. Situated on an eminence at the western end of the bay, it for many years was recognised as one of; finest homes in Auckland. Mr and _Mrs Davis their son Desmond,, and two female members of the domestic.; staff, escaped in their night, attire,., and; ( .the, building was burned to the ground with all . its contents, including valuable works of art, a library, and Mr Davis’-, collection of nautical trophies... The insurances are £5,700 on the house in United Company, and. £2,000 on contents including £I,OOO in Commercial Assurance.
