NEW APPOINTMENTS
APPROVED BY THE KING

The King has approved of the following appointments :—Sir Sansford Slater (Governor of the Gold Coast) to be Captain-General and Governor-in-Chief of Jamaica. Sir Ronald Storrs, on -the expiration of hi.s term as Governor of Cyprus in November, is to be Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Northern ißhodesia, in succession to Sir James Crawford-Maxwell, who shortly retires. 'Sir Shenton T-homas, Governor of‘ Nya-saland is to be Governor and Com-mander-in-Chief of the Nyassala-nd Protectorate. Sir Stewart ' Spencer-Davis ((Treasurer of Palestine) is to be Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Saint Helena.
The ' King has appointed sir Edward Stubbs, at present Captain-General and Governor-in-Chief of Jamaica, to he Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Cyprus, in .succession to Sir Ronald Storrs, whose term of office expires in November. ,
Sir E. Stubbs has had a Ibng and varied experience in ccjloniel administra. tion, After serving at the Colonial •Office from 1900 to 1913, he was Colonial Secretary for Ceylon until 1919, and was (governor of Hong Kong from 1919 to 1926, when he was appointed Governor of Jamaica. In the‘-present circumstances the Governorship of Cyprus has assumed particular importance, and it is understood that it is the special wish of the Colonial •Secretary that Sir E. Stubbs should undertake the administration.
