TWENTY-TWO MEN CHARGED,

HUNTLY, May 27

Huntly Magistrate's Court presented a scene of animation to-day when twenty-two men who were allleged to have participated in the raid upon the Farmer Trading Coy’® premises at Huntly on May 19th, appeared before Mr F. H. Levien, S.M., charged with theft of groceries vaAi-ed at £lO. Fiv© men were further charged with inciting lawlessness. Considerable interest was taken ill the proceedings by a larg© gallery of spectators, none of whom were able to gain admission to the Court. Five of the accused were Maoris, the others being colonials. The following were charged with theft of groceries valued at £lO the property of the Farmers’ Trading Coy., and further with inciting lawlessness.— David Fuller, miner; Albert Alien, miner, Raymond -Richards, miner, Joseph Bincham, miner; James Stirling, miner.

The following were charged with theft ..0f... groceries, only.— -Sutherland Redon, Henry Fehsenfeld, John Scott Hoodie, Evan David Davies, Idris Davies, (miners),. Robert Kav'eroa, Heta Tarawhiti, Peter Raumati, Gray Har■end, Joseph Berryman, Taiki Whm (labourers), Brynley Kin.son, Francis George Stevens, Horatio Swindles, Thomas’ Morgan (miners). Evidence by the “tore manager was given, detailing the raid on the s-tore. Evidence of interviewing all the accused was given hy Auckland detectives, and Senior Sergeant McHifgh, who stated that only five admitted theft of the groceries.
