OTTAWA, MAY 25
There have boon lmluundcd ruinoi r.in London and New York financial contres to-ilay that, action is necessary to protect Canadian fimuu ial, jnsuraiiiv and railway corporations. The Tumours were branded by the Premier, Mr Bennett, as “all nonsence.” They were characterised by the Minister of Finance, Ah- Rhodes as “‘moonshine.’’
A garbled interpretation ,of the statements that recently have been made in the Canadian House of Commons on the possibility of" the Government seeking emergency powers to deal with any extraoixlinary situation that might arise on the American Continent, is believed to have been responsible for to-day’s unfounded reports. It became known to-night that the Government has decided that it is unnecessary to bring in a Bill to give it such power.
