Alias Dorothy Thwaites’ Scliool of Dancing gained honours in the winning list at the recent Competitions, securing nineteen first prizes arid eighteen seconds out of twenty four events. A complaint that the Department of Internal Affairs has shown differentiation in regard to pukeko was made at the annual meeting of the (North painterbury Acc-iimatisiation Society by the president (Air C. H. Lawrence), who said that while an open season for these birds had been permitted elsewhere, .such was not the case so far as the North Canterbury district was concerned. He thought that as the birds were doing a lot of harm they should pot be wholly protected. A limited open season should be granted .locally to meet the position.

A party of prospectors who lor some time past have been prospecting and carrying out boring operations in Saltwater Creek at Paroa, five miles from Greymouth, struck payable gold yesterday, states the “Argus”.
