STRANGE COINCIDENCE

A MUCH-TRAVELLED BLANKET,

REMINDER OF GREAT WAR.

Auckland, May 24

A remarkable coincidence is repoited trom an Auckland suburb. A secondary school boy who had toeen camping with a number of other youths returnd home with an old Army.blanket which he lmd taken by mistake for the one he took to camp. On examining tho blanket the boy’s mother was astounded to see faintly stencilled unit the name and number of her brother, who served with the Mounted Hides during the war. The brother, who also lives in Auckland, last saw the blanket in Mesopotamia in 1918, and certainly never expected it would fall into the hands of liis nephew. He had the blanket with him in Mesopotamia and Palestine dur-

ing the war, and although it was possible that there might have been another man of the same name as himself in the Mountods, his number which was still plainly discernible on the blanket, proved beyond all doubt that it was originally his property. The present owner of the blankst is not known.
