BLOCK DESTROYED
CONFLAGRATION AT WELLINGTON

A fire, which ■brokerout in a residence in Rintoul Street*just before.oqe o’clock tlfis morning,- rapidly spread?ip a strong southerly gale,' and before the flames were subdued, a block 'of buildings between Harvey’s Lane oPlO* the southern side, and Stoke St. on the northern side, were completely*riO destroyed. - . ■ iriW
The outbreak is believed to have' occurred in one of two houses on the southern side of the block, and in a very short space of time, the flames were shooting skyward, illuminating the whole district.
Four shops destroyed formed a two storied block. They were occupied by Mrs E. •M. Turner, grocer, Janies Booth, dairy supplier, W. Burns, butcher, and an Indian fruiterer, j Immense showers of sparks - and pieces of burning debris, which swept northward down down • Rintoul St.
