The Assistant Treasurer, Air Stanley Bruce, reviewing the Commonwealth finances in a speech upon the Supply Bill, said that there was every prospect that the Government at the end of the year would be well within the Premiers’ Plan- He anticipated that there would be a deficit, hot exceeding one and a-half millions sterling, after allowing for the relief provided by the War Debts Moratorium. A new Tariff Schedule was introduced .in the House of Representatives to-day. It increases the excise/ duty on petrol distilled in Australia by one penny half-penny per gallon. This is estimated to produce one hundred thousand pounds in a year. „ There is a slight increase 'in import's on matches, cigarettes, and wireless valves also announced.
