The Hon, C, E, 'dMatAliilan, Minister of Minos i» ; making hie first visit to Westland to*day in his official capacity, and he :-wiil be warmly welcomed on all sides. The visit will be an opportune one, as there are many matters to be drawn ’ under the attention of the. Minister, who is making his tost official visit to a constituency isince his appointment a,s a member of the Coalition Cabinet. l At the present ;time there is a genuine revival in tine mining industry, and any assistance 'that can lie given should assist in maternially improving the possibilities oi: a substantial find being made. There are many possibilities in land ( for the advancement of mining opera tions, an§ with a favourable view* taken ancf the assistance given, the I industry should continue to advanao. For many years mining has been at a standstill, and it has struggled on with very little distance from the Government. The improved price received for gold has given a decided impetus to the industry, and there has been a larger number of men engaged of late than had been the case for years. There * are, several large undert?,lcings in the [ district that are fully warranting the large expenditure made to bring thorn to a successful issue. Ip' other parts fjf the district there' are /many promising ventures, that only need S'small amount of assistance to enable'them to bfc bvflVgbt to a successful issue, and with a fiymputliqtid consideration and -ndistance from tlm Government, there should bo n decided advance made. The visit of the Minister of Minos to the district at the present time :is therefore of decided interest and if is to be hoped that a& a result of this representations made and his own investigations that the outcome will bo an increased interest in the welfare of the mining developments of the! district.
