AFTERMATH of strike

CHRISTCHURCH, May 23
Describing the mediators ns partisans, criticising the manner of the Tramway Union's deputation, and declining to accept any blame for the tramway st-rjke, meipbers qf the Christchurch Tramway Board spent more than an hour this afternoon In a Hve’y discussion of the pros and cons of the dispute,
i -Mrs E. R. McCombs, who gave rise ito the discussion, by attacking the Board’s attitude was, in turn, attacked by other members of the Board, one of whom suggested that -she would best serve the community by resigning.
After declaring emphatically that there- Iliad been no victimisation in tho ,selection of the men who were dismissed. Air D. Sykes, wont on to sav that jf bo had had a hand in the picking the President of the Union (Mr J. Mathison), on account of liis soap-box agitation, would have been the first man to go.
Ultimately votes of thanks were passed to all of the employees and to the temporary police -who Iliad assisted the Board during the strenuous period of the -strike. On more than one occasion th o discussion grew heated, and the Chairman had to intervene.
