CHINESE APPEARS IN COURT

CHRISTCHURCH, May 17.
“He is one of those ch-.-ps wro doesn’t savee. I will have to csk for a remand,” stated Chief-Detective Carroll this morning referring to Je« King, ,a Chinese laiindryman, aged 1 hirty-two. King was charged -writ .having prepared opium in his possession on May 16.
“4 can’t speak English,” Kmg it: formed the Court.
“That-is the first I kne\v of it,' -su'd the Chief-Detective. “He will have to be remanded until Thursday.”
“You -speak English just as well as I do,” admonished the Magistrate wi'h a .smile.
