A granary and contents, the property of A. Read of ?Eiffelton, was destroyed by fire this morning. The origin is unknown. Insurances, building £230, machinery including car partly burned, £515, all in Lloyds. A threshing mill, • the property of Campbell and Kelleher, was al; - o destroyed. Insurances are unknown.

FATAL GUN EXPLOSION

INVERCARGILL, May 16

Ernest Janies Leslie, aged 33, a married man who was accountant tor the : Perpetual Trustee Company, was fatally shot this morning. He was removing a loaded rifle from a motorear when it exploded, the bullet entering his chest. He died soon after ad-mi'-'si-on to hospital.
