FIRE IN GRANARY

ASHBURTON, May 18
A granary and contents, the property of A. Read of ?Eiffelton, was destroyed by fire this morning. The origin is unknown. Insurances, building £230, machinery including car partly burned, £515, all in Lloyds. A threshing mill, • the property of Campbell and Kelleher, was al; - o destroyed. Insurances are unknown.
FATAL GUN EXPLOSION
INVERCARGILL, May 16
Ernest Janies Leslie, aged 33, a married man who was accountant tor the : Perpetual Trustee Company, was fatally shot this morning. He was removing a loaded rifle from a motorear when it exploded, the bullet entering his chest. He died soon after ad-mi'-'si-on to hospital.
ALLEGED BOYCOTT
ENQUIRY TO BE HELD,
AUCKLAND, May 18
The alleged boycotting of business people at Thames was discussed in committee to day by the Education Board.
The Minister of Education .sent correspondence regarding the matter and asked the Board to conduct a full inquiry into the case, so far as it related to the activities of individual teachers in the Board’s employ, or to their organisationsThe. Board decided that an inquiry be held in Thomas next week.
PLEA FOR HARMONY
CHRISTCHURCH, May 18
A circular from the Tramways Manager, issued to all employees makes u plea for harmony between those who have been running the trams and the strikers, and also contains a warning that friction arising out of tho strike will be severely dealt with.
