NIAGARA’S MAIL

AUCKLAND, May 16
The handling of 1600 bags of English and American mail from the Royal Mail liner Niagara, Ayliich poncH-d Auckland from Vancouver this alternoon, was carried out in record time by the postal officials. The Niagara anchored in the stream at 4.30 o’clock, and immediately the hags of letters were loaded into a postal launch. A few minutes later the launch raced to the end of the Queen’s’ wharf with 232 hags of southern mail and 58 bags for Auckland, which were loaded into lorries and rushed to the Post Office, where the first hags wore delivered 20 minutes after the Niagara had dropped anchor.
llv special arrangement with the Railway Department, the southern portion of the letter mail was loaded into the guard’s van of the Limited express, which left for Wellington at 7 o’clock this evening.
