A “VAMPIRE” AT LARGE.

Black magic arid devil-worship have mysteriously revived in widely separated parts of Europe and arc spreading with amazing rapidity.
Following an outbreak in Finland, and another at Dus'-eldoiff, Germany, a “vampire man” is believed' to have murdered the Alsace beauty queen, Suzanne Meyer, whose body was found near a cemetery at Strassburg. A reign of terror has started in the district. Mothers are keeping their daughters behind Hocked doors ip fear of a recurrence of the crime.
An attempt to probe as a witness the secret practices of Black Magic is to be made by Miss Helen Simpson, the young Australian novelist.
Miss Simpson and her husband. Dr Denis Browne, a West End physician are leaving London in -May for Hungary and Southern Germany. In Stvria (Hungary) she will investigate the stories of vampire- and werewolves which are isnid to haunt the countryside to the terror of villagers.
“Wo shall be the guests of an aged English landowner, who lives entirely afone in' a huge house, formerly a convent, in a wild pari of thri country,” she said.
“He is very interested in the local tales of werewolves and of human jouihs said to bs in/raoited by bloodsucking vampires. These bodies arc* said to have been found, perfectly preserved, years after burial.
“In the Black Mass, the service of Holy Mass. !l understand, is re d by a ! . ex-priest, in a profanely parodied manner, and the- consecration of bread and wine js done over the naked body oi a woman, stretched full length on an altar table. In Germany Hater, I shall, if possible, attend .one or more of th black magic ceremonies,” Mins Bimpsm added.
