TO STAND FOR REINSTATEMENT.

The Union makes an offer to the Board of another basis of settlement, namely, that all of ihe Traffic Staff be reinstated m their former positions, and that they ration the work with the 60 volunteers who, Mr Donnelly stipulates, must be retained in the Board’s employment.
Tne union makes the proviso that all the other members' of the Union in the other departments be reinstated in their formed positions.

So far the Tramway Union havt not agreed 1 to return to work and still ask for a modification of vuo
Tribunal’s terms. The Chairman of the Tramways Board (Mr F. Thompson), states that the Board is r unlikely to consider the Union’s counter proposals, which involve rationing on a large 'scale, and tile virtual reinstatement of all strikers.
MAYOR’S STATEMENT.
'CHRISTCHURCH, May 17,
Declaring lie had informed the authorities of his willingness.to appeal for assistance from the community in the case of disorder in the city, and had not yet received an answer, Mayor Sullivan narrated to the Christchurch. City Council, the steps he had taken in connection with the establishment of an auxiliary police force. The discussion arose but of a motion moved by Councillor Baker, thanking the temporary police for their services. It was not carried, but was referred to the Finance Committee so that a resolution acceptable to every. Councillor could be . framed by it.
