LONDON, May 16,

Obituary.—After a motor accident, lEarl Egrruont, formerly a Canad'an rancher.

HON. W. PEMBER REEVES,

(Received this day at 8 a.m.) LONDON, May 16

The death is reported of the Hon. William Pember Reeves in his 76th year.

Born in February, 1857, Hon. W. Pember Reeves was educated at Christ’s College, and the Grammar School, gaining five scholarships. He studied law, but showed a preference for journalism, editing the “Canterbury Times,” and “Lyttelton Times," while he was chairman of tiie «N;& Times.” He represented St. Aibans (Christchurch), in the House froin 1887 to 1890, and the City of Christchurch from 1891 to 1896. He .held the portfolios of Education, Labour, and Justice, and to b<:-> vome, Agent-Genural, holding the post to 1905, He was director of the London School of Economics from 1908 to 1920, and a Doctor of Physics at t*e University of Athens. He was chairman of the National Bank c -- New Zealand/ and was a, Senator of the University of London. In addition to academical honours he had several international Orders conferred upon him. He was a member of the Royal Commission 'On Shipping, and was well known as an author of several present day topics. In addition he was a keen sportsman, representing Canterbury in his earlier days at cricket and iootball.
