YESTERDAY’S RESULTS m . WESTLAND COUNTY POLLING . * ... ' PARTICULARS OF VOTING / The polling for the Westland County Council elections' took place yesterday under good weather conditions, and the polling was heavier than at the last election in 1929. The results of the Northern'' and Central Ridings came very promptly to hand after the closing of the poll and by 7 o’clock the results were made available. The results from the Southern Riding came much later and it was not till almost 8 o’clock that all the results, except Five Mile were to hand. In the Northern Riding the two sitting members, Messrs Ward and Murdoch had an easy victory over the third oanditdate who was practically unknown. \ ... In the Central Riding, Mr W. A. Jamieson of Koiternngi, who is anew member, but otherwise a well-known public man, was honoured with a substantial majority over the other candidates. Messrs T. Chesterman and M. Keenan (sitting members) were .the other successful candidates, while Mr H. Wells (a sitting member since the bye-election) and Mr R. Whiley, a new aspirant for honours on the Council wore considerably lower down tlie list. In the Southern Riding the contest Was a very close one. Mr James Donovan, one of the sitting members,- had it substantial majority, scoriilg well at all centres. Mr W. Searle, another sitting member, was second Oil the list showing an improved position on last election. Mr J,\ McKay, H Harihari candidate was successful on his first attempt at Council lienors. For the fourth seat there was a close contest between Messrs W. Jeffries (sitting member) and J. H. Cropper (Waitaha), The last booth figures which cam e to hand this morning from Fire Mile, placed Mr Jeffries in the lead with 9 votes to spare. Mr M, Houston lost his seat, being replaced by Mr McKay. >' ; _
