Considerable interest was taken in the Harbour Board election yesterday when c\cry inner harbour supportu. was defeated. As a result of the earthquake the bed of the harbour was raised six feet, and, since then, tho Tutaekuri river, bearing silt from the fractured hills, lias raised the land above' the water level practically all over the inner harbour. This is the first time for over 20 years that there has been a majority on the board opposed to further construction of the inner harbour.
